A silent protest planned for noon in front of the Lebanon County Courthouse on Thursday turned into a protest march throughout the city after police on scene refused to kneel with protestors.

Mayor Sherry Capello said she called on the U.S. National Guard to be on reserve to counter “Antifa” – a reference to anti-fascist protesters who have been blamed by some city leaders and law enforcement around the country for using violence to disrupt protests.

The protesters who marched in Lebanon were passionate but peaceful. In the afternoon, the protesters marched to the Lebanon County Jail where a tense standoff with guards and police was resolved without arrests or violence.
