A group of lawmakers is calling for the state to take out several billion in emergency loans to fund relief programs for schools, workers, and healthcare systems.
The group of legislators say Black and Brown people naturally wear their hair in a variety of styles, but get disproportionately disciplined or excluded for doing so.
The state’s Independent Fiscal Office has reported that Pennsylvania is going to end the year more than $800 million above budget projections.
State Sen. Vincent Hughes said the money would be used “solely for emergency repairs,” including issues regarding asbestos, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, roofs, windows, or “other repairs or replacements that present a health or safety issue.”
